Nordic Fest 2022 will span more than one week. This year, our main program will be on the 99th Infantry (Sep.) Battalion, a unit of Norwegian-Americans and Norwegians-in-exile during World War 2. We have people coming from all over the country, including Deputy Chief of Mission Torleiv Opland and Military and Assistant Defense Attache Col. Eric F. Kelley from the Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Kyle Ward, director of social studies and history professor at MN State Univ. Mankato, will speak on the history of the 99th. He is on the board of directors for the 99th Battalion Educational Foundation and is collaborating with Odd Lovoll on a forthcoming book, “Viking Battalion: The Norwegian-American’s War Against Hitler,” which looks at 99th Infantry Battalion history. Erik Brun, president of the 99th Foundation, will show photos and have rosters and data for the 99th.
