There are several local organizations that offer both formal and informal educational community programming. Thief River Falls Community Education supports the educational, social and recreational needs of the community by serving the Thief River Falls School District and surrounding communities. They believe in lifelong learning for all people, birth through adulthood, and partnerships that support and strengthen the community, schools and families. They offer several unique classes ranging from exercise and cooking classes to technology education and rustic sign making.
The Northwest Regional Library offers programs for all ages, from preschoolers to seniors, to enhance the pure enjoyment of library services. Programs offered are free and open to the public. Examples of programming include musicians, vocalists, authors, magicians and artists, just to name a few.
There is also a unique component of the Pennington County Fair that was recently added called Norwegian Day at the Fair. This features many exhibits and peer learning opportunities, but one example was an exhibit on rosemaling, which is a traditional form of decorative folk art that originated in the rural valleys of Norway. Rosemaling is a style of Norwegian decorative painting on wood that uses stylized flower ornamentation, scrollwork, lining and geometric elements, often in flowing patterns.
These vast peer learning opportunities are very unique for a community of our size and we feel fortunate that the organizations mentioned above are dedicated to educating our residents in a wide variety of topics.
